Should you upgrade to Intel's new Atom processors?

PC Magazine got access to an Intel whitebox system sporting the new Atom processors, and ran it through its paces in order to answer the question of whether an upgrade is necessary. I wrote about the new Atom Processors last week, and you can read more about their various enhancements here.

In a nutshell, users already on a dual-core Intel atom processor will not likely notice improvements worthy of an upgrade. However, those on the first generation of Atom processors will find themselves able to experience "light multimedia tasks" as well as faster Web browsing on the new chips.  And where used on the net top, the new D510 Atom with its integrated graphics chip has much lower power consumption, which should bring about a lower power bill.
