Security vulnerabilities continue to inundate software vendors

Danish software security firm Secunia has released its Half Year Security Report, and the results aren't encouraging. And as security and system administrators around the world would likely have attested to, security problems continue to inundate software vendors.

Indeed, page six of the Secunia report noted that, "Despite increased investments into the security of their products, none of the seven vendors who occupied the Top-10 group in 2005 as well as in 2010 managed to decrease the number of vulnerabilities discovered in their products."

But that's not all. If anything, the number of vulnerabilities that were discovered appear to have increased. The report noted: "On the contrary, the vulnerability count of each of these seven vendors has increased to reach in 2009 between 136 percent and 440 percent of the 2005 count." I downloaded the report (.pdf) for a quick read; you can read about my thoughts on it in today's editorial.
