SAP targets Oracle with in-memory tech
SAP is working on new kinds of in-memory databases, initially for business intelligence software but potentially for relational uses as well. More than half of SAP's customers use databases from rival Oracle, so if SAP's research proves viable, they'd have a huge opportunity. Oracle and IBM also each have in-memory database technology, but SAP's would be tightly integrated with its software and with blade servers. (Maybe a SAP appliance is planned?)
