Steve Jobs's innocuously-titled anti-DRM manifesto "Thoughts on Music" was sure to ruffle a few feathers, and ruffle it has. Everyone from the Recording Industry Association of America to that endearing 12 year-old blogger down the street has posted a response in the days since, though some are more notable than others. Displaying either a rare bit of humor or a complete lack of reading comprehension skill, the RIAA applauded Jobs's offer to open up FairPlay--which, as you'll recall, is exactly what Jobs stated Apple would not do. Meanwhile, those jokers over at SanDisk issued their letter of response, praising DRM and sucking cozying up to the major labels. "SanDisk is looking at the big picture, by creating solutions rather than conflict. Building an infrastructure to give consumers fair access to digital content while protecting content creators is vital for the long-term health of the music industry, as well as to our business and to our competitors. SanDisk stands committed to making this happen." Easy to say when you don't run your own music store--and when you don't sell nearly as many music players.
