Samsung preps "world's first" HHD laptop
Those flash lovers at Samsung have finally begun selling the R55, which the company claims is an "industry first"--a laptop with a built-in Hybrid Hard Drive (HHD). The machine sports the 80GB 5,400rpm/256MB flash combo drive that the company began shipping to OEMs just over a month ago and tops it off with a 1.83Ghz Core 2 Duo, a 15.4″ WXGA LCD and of course, a sprinkling of Vista Premium. Samsung claims that the machine consumes 32 percent less power, increases data read speeds by 26 percent and write speeds by 71 percent. The R55 is available now in Korea for around $1,923 and will hopefully show up on these shores shortly.
