Samsung: Launch of Galaxy Tab 10.1 will go ahead as planned
Samsung will not be going back to the drawing board over the Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet after all. When interviewed in the wake of the iPad 2 unveiling last week, a Samsung executive was quoted as confessing that Samsung will need to rethink its pricing and also "improve the parts that are inadequate." Announced just a month ago, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 will incorporate the powerful 1GHz Tegra dual core processor, and a 10.1-inch display to rival that of the first-generation iPad.
Lee Don-joo, executive vice president of Samsung's mobile division was quoted last week confessing that the thin profile of the iPad 2 and its low price points are likely to challenge the sales of its own tablet. (The Galaxy Tab 10.1 measures 10.9mm thick while the iPad 2 is only 8.8mm.) However, Lee is projecting a more positive front in a follow-up report this week. He was quoted as saying: "We will continue to make every effort to provide the most powerful, well-designed and productive mobile device to customers."
Since Samsung has yet to announce a price, the logical inference would be that the company will be tweaking it to stay competitive with the iPad 2 and other tablet competitors. I suppose we will have to wait and see for that.
