Samsung has sold a million of its Galaxy Tab tablet devices around the world in the first 60 days since its launch. This was confirmed by Samsung to various news sites and it marks a milestone that the company initially hoped to achieve by the end of the year. In every sense of the word, the Samsung Tab is a major success and appears poised to snag the number two spot behind the iPad.

Not everyone is impressed, though. Tim Coulling, an analyst at Canalys observed that Samsung did a worldwide launch for the Tab, compared to Apple's (NASDAQ: AAPL) iPad which was on sale only in the U.S. for the first month. Coulling also told V3.co.uk: "Apple's device had a restricted route to market, and it is only recently that the manufacturer has decided to allow operators to sell the device directly." (As a comparison, Apple shipped more than 4 million iPads in the fourth quarter alone)

Software and platform aside, the Galaxy Tab's smaller size does makes it more suitable for those on-the-move, while the iPad's heftier weight means that it is better experienced when sitting down or at home.
