Rumors hint at poor launch for Phenom

With the rumored launch date of AMD's Phenom platform looming ever closer, you would think that things were all squared away for a strong showing of the company's latest product. If the rumor mill is accurate, however, Phenom might arrive with a whimper, not a bang. Taiwanese rumor rag Digitimes reports that the company is pushing back its 2.6Ghz Phenom part, which was scheduled to ship in December, into early 2008, thereby scaling back Phenom's launch speed yet again. Allegedly, only the 2.2Ghz Phenom 9500 and the 2.3Ghz Phenom 9600 will see the light of day this month, with a 2.4Ghz part scheduled to follow in December. According to the Digitimes' industry sources, the delays are being caused by "barriers relating to conversion to 65nm."
