Rumor: Palm to launch UMPC
The UMPC was starting to seem like a failed experiment for a while there but thanks to Intel's Menlow architecture, the spec is starting to look like it could produce some serious contenders for the soon to be iPhone-obsessed consumer market. As you'll recall, Palm recently announced its own Linux-based smartphone OS, so it wouldn't be entirely out of the question for the company to ready its own Linux-based UMPC. And if the rumor mill is to be believed, that's exactly what's in the works at Palm headquarters. The rumors originated with some comments made by analysts after the company held a conference call on upcoming products. It seems a little far fetched but the company's product line (not to mention its stock price) could certainly use a shot in the arm as of late.
