New details have surfaced suggesting that Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) is working on an 8.9-inch model of the Kindle Fire tablet. The 7-inch Kindle Fire tablet will be available on Nov. 15, and fresh speculations have already emerged of a 10-inch device slated for a 2012 Q2 launch. An earlier report that has proven accurate about the Kindle Fire's 7-inch form factor had also referred to a larger 10-inch tablet on Amazon's drawing board.

The latest rumors arose in a report from market watcher Digitimes. Citing sources in the supply chain, the site says panel suppliers Chunghwa Picture Tubes and LG Display have started to prepare for production of 8.9-inch displays. While the report suggested a shift in Amazon's product roadmap, it is not known whether the 8.9-inch devices will replace the 10-inch models entirely, or is simply a reshuffling of timelines as part of a strategy to create a range of Kindle Fire tablets.

Despite not being available yet, the high number of pre-orders for its Kindle Fire has prompted Amazon to ramp up production of the device in the 7-inch, low cost segment. Separately, B&N yesterday launched its own 7-inch Nook Tablet. Priced slightly higher at $249, the Nook Tablet will incorporate a better IPS display, double the storage and a microSD slot for further expansion.
