According to multiple reports, the tablet device that electronics giant Samsung says it will launch this year will be unveiled on August 11. One prominent technology press outlet reported that it received an invitation to an event on that date, mere days after an Android tablet was reported to have been in development at Samsung.

At the moment, the tablet device is supposed to be called the Galaxy Tab, and will run Android 2.2, or Froyo. Hardware specification includes a 7-inch AMOLED touch-screen, a 1.2GHz processor, front (and back) facing cameras, and 16GB of storage.

Among all the manufacturers that have talked about developing tablet devices--not counting those from Dell, HP and RIM--Samsung seems the most poised to succeed. It has considerable know-how in making the various internal components of tablets, such as the processors and flash memory chips that they require.

In addition, the recently launched Samsung Galaxy S proved also to be a well-accepted smartphone, at the same time allowing Samsung to hone its skill at making Android-based devices. One thing for sure--I'm looking forward to seeing the Samsung Tab.
