Report: New MacBook Pro due soon, will have separate SSD for the OS
A report published by Boy Genius Report says that the new MacBook Pro will be unveiled later this week. While BGR quoted unnamed sources, it does have a track record of getting unreleased information correct. Meanwhile, hints of dwindling and constrained supplies are also a good indicator of an upcoming MacBook Pro refresh.
What I found interesting is news pertaining to how lower-end models will come with a separate 8-16GB SSD onto which the operating system will be loaded. The presence of regular hard disk drives will complement the capacity for the normal storing of files and programs. In addition, another report originating from CNET also hinted that the MacBook Pro could come with a new connector technology called Light Peak, for which an announcement from Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) "is expected soon."
Even though the majority of laptops sold today are still based on the Windows platform, a resurgent Apple has been setting trends in terms of laptop design and capabilities. Among others, this includes wins with the slimness of its MacBook Air family, the introduction of multi-touch trackpads, and its unique unibody design. As such, the introduction of new products by Apple is a keenly watched affair by fans and competitors alike.
