Report: Microsoft's Bing overtakes Yahoo
A report by StatCounter says that Microsoft's new Bing search engine has overtaken Yahoo's market share within the first week of release. As of June 4, StatCounter noted that Bing had a 16.28 percent of the market share, which puts it ahead of Yahoo's 10.22 percent. Of course, Microsoft is also burning through some $80 million to $100 million on a massive advertising binge--no pun intended--in order to get Bing off the ground.
Over the last week, I did notice a dramatic increase in the amount of search engine traffic being sent to my personal blog from bing.com. Of course, I am referring to traffic that used to come in via msn.com, versus visitors sent to my site by google.com. It will be a few more months yet before we will know whether Microsoft was able to make a dent, though; in the meantime Google still commands an impregnable 71.47 percent of the market.
