Red Hat speaks out on Oracle's Linux plans
With all the excitement surrounding Oracle's recent announcement, many members of the open-source community were left wondering how Oracle's move to distribute and support Linux will affect Red Hat in the long run. Speculation has been running rampant and some are even predicting that Red Hat will either be driven out of business or devalued to the point that Oracle chooses to outright buy the Linux developer. Despite what you might think, the folks at Red Hat are looking toward the future with cautious optimism--they see Oracle's move as beneficial for the open-source community as a whole. "It would certainly have been easier had they not made this announcement, but there are a lot of things that actually will be positive for us," Tim Yeaton, senior vice president at Red Hat, told eWeek in a recent interview. "We do not think it is at all true that the move could put us out of business and we think it supports the model behind the way we have built our business."
