Red Hat releases Fedora 11

Red Hat officially released Fedora 11, for download earlier this week. Code-named Leonidas, the latest update comes with a number of new features, including several virtualization improvements and a much faster boot process. In fact, Max Spevack, Red Hat's community architecture team manager, told ZDNet UK that Fedora should consistently be able to boot up for most users in the region in "around 20 seconds."

In addition, there are new features designed to make the distribution more enterprise-friendly. One such enterprise-centric feature would be OpenChange, which essentially uses an open source version of Microsoft's Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) to allow any email client native access to Microsoft Exchange. Additional tweaks include better support for fingerprint readers and the use of ext4 file system.
