June 1, 2006 — 7:01pm ET
Red Hat's Enterprise Linux 5 will ship in December, with the beta version due in July, officials said. A second beta is scheduled for mid-September. The open-source Xen virtualization software is still the major highlight, for which Red Hat will also offer professional services options. Stateless clients, clustering, InfiniBand and other previously separate features will all have new roles in the operating system. Pricing details are not yet announced.
