Rackspace opens up Cloud APIs

In a bid to wrestle a slice of the pie from the likes of Amazon's EC2, hosting company Rackspace has opened up an additional cloud interface in the form of its Cloud Files APIs. This comes on top of an earlier move that saw the company releasing its Cloud Servers API, which allows customers to control the virtual machines on Rackspace servers. The new APIs makes it possible for customers to access file handling services.

APIs are essential for developers to develop products that connect to and access various resources, be it in an operating system or a Cloud-based system. The idea obviously is for Rackspace to make its architecture as indispensible as possible, which will no doubt happen as developers build services on top of Rackspace by tapping into its API.

Underscoring the company's eagerness to get developers committed to its platform, Emil Sayegh, general manager of the Rackspace Cloud said, "We are working quickly to offer a wide range of tools to help developers work with us to create these important building blocks."

If you recall, Rackspace made news for the wrong reasons just last month after its data center in Dallas experienced an outage resulting from power issues. Hopefully, these problems should be resolved by now.
