R.I.P. Appleworks, 1984-2007

So long, Appleworks, we hardly knew ye. A mere 23 years of age, the young software suite was cut down in it's prime--OK, not really. While we all know Appleworks had become completely irrelevant during the past few years (especially now that iWork is a fully-featured productivity suite), a few fogies are likely to mourn the software's passing for nostalgic reasons. After all, Appleworks was launched in 1984--the same year as the first Mac--and at one point in its history dovetailed with the late, great Clarisworks office suite. Following the iWork announcement last week, Apple removed Appleworks from its online store and set the Appleworks page to redirect to the iWork site. Not too long afterward, the company announced the Appleworks suite had reached "end-of-life status". Appleworks may now be gone but it's certainly not forgotten: Ars Technica has come forward to implore Apple to bundle the iWork suite with every Mac, as it once did with Appleworks.
