Post outage, Google makes more tweaks to Gmail
Google is moving ahead with rolling out new features for its Gmail service in the wake of a multi-hour outage early last week. The problem actually came about due to a buggy new feature that resulted in a catastrophic failure which cascaded uncontrollably through a number of data centers sites.
At the moment though, the new features appear to be relative cosmetic in scope. One of these enhancements would be the ability to display the "Unread email count" as the first item in a browser tab. This can be enabled via Gmail Labs. The other new feature is more unobtrusive, but it will definitely be welcomed: It is now possible to add multiple attachments to an email simply by pressing the Ctrl or Shift key.
