PCs get sleepier with Vista

Tools

With Thanksgiving coming up in a little over a month, many of us are already dreaming of sinking our teeth into a delicious, tryptophan-filled slice of turkey. If all goes according to plan this November, another member of your family will be taking a post-dinner Thanksgiving nap as well: your home PC. That's because Microsoft claims that Vista allows PCs to go to sleep more easily. In addition to sending PCs to the Land of Nod after 10 minutes of inactivity (the OS's default setting), Vista will also contain features that make it easier for a PC to sleep, even if a program tries to keep the computer awake. Using Vista's advanced power-saving options, admins can even remotely wake PCs to install updates and then send them back to sleep. The company estimates that businesses can save between $55 and $70 a year per PC, by allowing the machine to sleep during off hours. I don't know about you, but I'm going to go out and buy a set of pajamas and a teddy bear for my PC.
