PC builder beats Microsoft with free Windows 7 upgrade
Puget Sound Systems Inc, a system builder has launched its own Windows 7 upgrade program this week--independently of Microsoft. Puget customers who purchase systems costing more than a $1,000 and running the 64-bit edition of Windows Vista Ultimate will be eligible for a free upgrade to the 64-bit version of Windows 7 Ultimate. Windows Vista Ultimate is Microsoft's highest-end edition of Windows Vista.
Jon Bach, the company's president, explained that customers who have heard positive feedback about Windows 7 are becoming more hesitant to purchase new systems running Windows Vista. However, Windows 7 is not due out until the end of this year, and the company saw this "as an opportunity to do something exciting when there's not a whole lot of things happening in the business at the moment."
Not to mention a chance for the company to get some exposure, of course. For those who might be interested, the free upgrade offer is currently valid until June 15.
