Patched Mac Mail vulnerability returns

Less like a bug and more like a phoenix, an almost 2-year-old Mac Mail vulnerability has resurfaced in Leopard. Security researchers recently discovered that the bug--which apple patched some 20 months ago in its last operating system, OS 10.4 Tiger--exists in its original form in Leopard. The vulnerability can allow malicious code to run on a user's machine by disguising an executable program as an image or other innocuous file, which is then sent as an email attachment. When the user attempts to open the attachment using Apple's Mail application, the executable runs, allowing malicious parties access to the machine. Hopefully, Apple will be able to turn around a patch quickly, as they've already been down this road before.
