Panasonic launches new ToughBooks

We've seen Panasonic's 7-series of ToughBook laptops trotting about in the magical land of Japan before but now, these durable notebooks are ready to rock in the 50 states. As we mentioned earlier, the W7, T7 and Y7 ToughBooks all feature the same durability features, which are nothing to sneeze at: their hard drives can take a 2.5 foot drop with no damage, the LCDs can take a one foot fall without a crack and the keyboard can handle up to six ounces of liquid, poured continuously. They also have some specs in common: a 1.6Ghz Core 2 Duo, 1-2GB of RAM, Bluetooth, an 80GB hard drive and a "mobile broadband ready" Mini PCI slot and antenna. Here's where they diverge: the Y7 sports a run-of-the-mill form factor with a 14.1" display, the W7 is an ultraportable with a 12" display that weighs a paltry 3 pounds and the T7 is a touchscreen-equipped tablet PC. All three are available now; the Y7 starts at $2400 while the T7 and W7 start at $2100.
