Palm Treo 800w, "Gandolf" leaked?

Palm burned quite a few true believers a few weeks ago when it announced the Foleo, the company's would-be "new category of mobile device" that landed with a thud. If the rumormill offers any indication, however, the company may be preparing for some due penance with a gaggle of new handsets. First up is the Palm Treo 800w, which will supposedly boast a number of improvements over the 700w when it lands during the fourth quarter: EV-DO REV A., Windows Mobile 6, a 320x320 display, 256MB of flash, 128MB of RAM, a 1.3-megapixel camera, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, and an expansion slot.

But that's not all. More and more info has been surfacing lately on the so-called "Gandolf," the thin, Windows Mobile smartphone that Palm has supposedly had in development for some time. Over the weekend, a credible-looking spyshot of the device leaked, revealing something that looks about the size and dimensions of the T-Mobile Dash. According to the rumormongers, the handset will feature a qwerty keypad, Bluetooth, Camera, Micro SD Memory Card and Rev A EV-DO at a low price point of $200. Allegedly, a version running on Palm's own OS Garnet will be the first out of the gate, with a Windows Mobile Standard version to follow. Long the butt of fat phone jokes, Palm could certainly use a slim, cheap smartphone to compete with offerings from HTC and Samsung.
