Palm Gandolf reborn as Treo 500?
Back when the Palm Centro was a mere rumor, going by the name of "Gandolf," it was unclear whether the device would run Palm OS or Windows Mobile 6. Then, it seemed like there might be two versions of the device, one running Palm OS and one running Windows Mobile. Now, however, it seems that the Centro and the Windows Mobile "Gandolf" are in fact, two separate devices. We now know that the Centro is coming to the U.S. courtesy of Sprint, so what of its Windows Mobile sibling? Say hello to the Palm Treo 500. If recent rumors are to be believed, this device will sport a number of features that will distinguish it from the Centro: a slightly different form factor, a larger (non touchscreen) screen and 3G Internet. In addition, the new Treo should sport 150 MB of internal memory, Bluetooth 2.0, a 2-megapixel camera and a MicroSD expansion slot. The Treo 500 is expected to land in Europe on Vodafone's network, so this little guy could be a part of Palm's "not Centro" announcement tomorrow in Europe--stay tuned.
