Oracle sews up multiple security holes

Oracle, in its quarterly patch update, announced updates for 40 software bugs. Fourteen of those affect database software. Many of the patches are critical and should be applied immediately, officials and security experts said. However, Oracle said some of the patches are not immediately available for specific operating systems and configurations. That announcement drew industry criticism.
