Oracle acquires TimesTen database
Oracle acquired TimesTen, a small database vendor known for its ultra-high-speed applications, officials said today. The companies have several common customers -- typically in the communications, financial, defense, and transportation sectors -- who often build custom methods for using the databases together. A purchase price wasn't announced. TimesTens' investors include BEA Systems, Hewlett-Packard, and Sun Microsystems, along with traditional banking institutions.
