Open Office 3.0 has finally been released after three years in the making. In summary, the new release effectively resolves incompatibility problems between its OpenDocument Format 1.2 and the new Office 2007 OOXML. A fair number of enhancements were incorporated across the various software applications in the suite, including the inclusion of built-in import filters for the latest Office 2007 and 2008 formats. In addition, a thorough code overhaul was also done on the Mac version, which now runs as a native OS X application. Already, Open Office's site was down for a number of hours due to an overwhelming number of users seeking to download the software. You might want to download Open Office 3.0 here when it's up again.
