Only two new security bulletins next week for Patch Tuesday
An exceptionally light update has been scheduled for May's Patch Tuesday that is coming next week. This is probably welcome news for system administrators of Windows-centric environments, given the record 64 flaws that were patched in April's Patch Tuesday.
According to the advance notification released by Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT), there will be two security bulletins this month. One of the bulletins is rated as "Critical" while the other is tagged with a lower threat score of "Important." The former is applicable only to Windows Server 2003 and 2008 installations, though additional details are not available at this point. The second bulletin is intended for Microsoft Office and pertains to Office XP, 2003, 2007 and 2004 for Mac. PowerPoint has been specifically called out as the application that will receive a fix, according to a report by Computerworld.
