Office 2000 will no longer be supported after July 14
Microsoft will discontinue security updates for Office 2000 beginning July 14. Since the date coincides with Microsoft's "Patch Tuesday"--the second Tuesday of every month--it is presumed that the Redmond-based company will also release any final patches on that day.
In addition, Microsoft will also discontinue support for Office Update shortly after that, on August 1. Users will instead be pushed to the newer Microsoft Update site for a "more simplified and consistent experience" for Microsoft products.
Of course, it is hard to imagine organizations running Office 2000 and still chugging along without problems. Whatever the case though, it is a good time as any to upgrade from Office 2000, or even switch to alternatives such as OpenOffice 3.1.
