OCZ introduces faster RevoDrive X2 PCI-Express based SSD
OCZ Technology Group has announced a new PCI-Express based SSD (Solid State Drive) that raises the performance bar on its first generation RevoDrive--to 120,000 IOPS. And yes, the new RevoDrive X2 is bootable too, allowing it to take the place of a hard disk drive in a high-performance workstation or server. Internally, the number of high-end Sandforce-1200 controllers has been doubled to four while utilizing a similar RAID 0 configuration; in addition, the new drive operates at PCIe x4 speed to circumvent the 3Gbps transfer limitations of the SATA II interface.
The RevoDrive X2 PCI-Express SSD comes in various capacities ranging from lower-end models of 100GB, 160GB, all the way up to 960GB. The lower-end 100GB and 160GB variants come with read speeds of up to 740 MB/s and 690 MB/s write speed, while the other models pack a slightly higher 720 MB/s write performance, or more than three times faster than the fastest SATA-based SSDs. The OCZ RevoDrive X2 comes with a three-year warranty, with prices that start at $464 for the lowest end model and $669 for the 240GB version.
