OASIS submits OpenDocument standard
October 10, 2005 — 7:01pm ET
OpenDocument is an evolving standard for storage desktop application files in common ways. It's already used in the OpenOffice suite, and now it's being pushed toward officialdom by the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards. OASIS in turn is sending it to the International Standards Organization. Once it gets the ISO stamp, then maybe Microsoft will be convinced to use it for Office, advocates hope. There's no hard time frame for all this.
