Nvidia countersues Intel for breach of contract

Nvidia has decided to fire back at Intel, who went to court last month over disagreements pertaining to the details of a licensing agreement the two companies signed in 2004. At stake over Intel's move is whether a 2004 licensing agreement extends to the new Nehalem microarchitecture as well as other future products. Intel is not seeking any damages for its lawsuit. What is clear is that Intel and Nvidia have failed to reach an agreement over this matter. Intel spokesman Chuck Mulloy noted, "You can only go so long saying, 'we're licensed, no you're not.'"

In return, Nvidia is now accusing Intel of breach of contract. Nvidia is seeking to terminate Intel's license to Nvidia's patent portfolio, which includes its 3D and GPU technologies. Intel secured access to these technologies as part of the same agreement in order to make the graphics chips in Intel-powered workstations sold by the major computer makers.
