Novell buys e-Security, warms to Oracle deal

Novell is acquiring e-Security for $72 million. e-Security's product line, Sentinel, monitors and reports on compliance and network safety. Officials said the deal was underway long before this week's news about Oracle considering Novell or rival Red Hat as acquisition targets of its own. Of that prospect, "...I think the Red Hat-JBoss deal will cause us to have an even closer relationship with [Oracle]," Novell CEO Jack Messman said. Having security products in the catalog may make Novell just a bit more attractive to Ellison & Co.
