New Intel processors coming for ultrathin laptops
Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) has confirmed that it will soon release new power-efficient processors that the chip maker says will bridge the performance gap between netbooks and mainstream laptops. To be released under the Intel Core i3 and Core i5 brands, these new processors will consume less power yet perform better than the anemic Atom chips currently used in netbooks. The new processors will be made using the 32-nanometer manufacturing process and run two threads per core.
Intel says that the new processors will power ultrathin laptops, or laptops in the 12 to 14-inch category. Itching to get your hands on an ultrathin laptop? Well, Stephen Smith, vice president and director of PC client operations and enabling at Intel has confirmed during a webcast speech that the new processors will make its way into products in the second half of this year.
