New iMacs all but confirmed for Tuesday

Apple last updated the iMac a full 329 days ago--almost twice the amount of time it usually takes to see an update to the venerable all-in-one. A new iMac would seem to make a lot of sense right about now, as the low-end Mac could certainly put Intel's new Santa Rosa chipset to good use. On top of that, we've been hearing rumors about new iMacs for months now--heck, we've even seen what looks to be a pretty credible photo of the new keyboard that will supposedly ship with it. And, as we said last week, Mac rumormongers have been fingering the Aug. 7 date for new iMacs for a while.

Interestingly enough, Apple just sent out press invitations for an event in Cupertino on the 7th--which, by the way, is a Tuesday, the day of the week that Apple always announces new products--and they've told journalists to expect a "product presentation for Mac." Need further convincing that we'll see new iMacs on Tuesday? Yeah, that's what I thought.
