More delays predicted in 802.11n standards

Earlier this year, a dispute raged about which of two overlapping 802.11n wireless networking specifications would become the new IEEE standard. Recently, both camps appeared headed for a compromise. But now there's a new dispute, with chipmakers Atheros, Broadcom, Intel and Marvell doing side research in private. Because of this, a standard could be delayed again until mid-2007, observers note. The foursome insists their extracurricular work is no big deal and won't cause delays; others say 802.11n itself isn't worth the fuss. Only time will tell.
