Microsoft's Surface Pro to arrive Feb. 9

Microsoft's Surface Pro tablet looks set to arrive on Feb. 9 in the United States and Canada. Unlike the Windows RT based Surface tablet, the Surface Pro runs the Windows 8 Pro operating system, which means that it is effectively a full-featured PC that will run existing Windows software.

On the downside, the Windows Surface Pro is also significantly thicker at 0.53 inches (13.5mm), especially when measured against the 9.4mm (0.37 inches) of an iPad 4 and the 9.3mm of the Surface tablet.

On the other hand, Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) is keen to highlight the faster USB 3.0 port and Mini DisplayPort connector, which allow the Surface Pro to be docked to high-speed peripherals, as well as a large-screen external display.

In addition, the Windows Surface Pro also comes with a full HD (1920x1080) pixel display, and may help lift sales of Windows 8 tablets. At the moment, analysts speculate that only a million Surface tablets have been shipped to date. The Surface Pro is priced at $899 without a Touch Cover, or $1018 with one.
