Microsoft not persuasive in pushing deployment of Windows 7

Don Reisinger over at eWeek wrote about how Microsoft is doing a poor job in convincing enterprise companies to upgrade to Windows 7. He thinks that the arguments that Microsoft made--via a sponsored study done by Forrester Research--only state the numbers and don't articulate the case clearly enough. I haven't read the report, though Reisinger's argument that Microsoft should just admit its mistakes with Windows Vista does resonate with me.

Microsoft's decision to release Windows 7 Enterprise for a free 90-day trial is as good a start as any, though Reisinger contends that more needs to be done on the public relations end. This is in light of the many broken promises that the Redmond-based company made about Vista that were simply never delivered.

Of course, the truth is that enterprises still on Windows XP are looking around for something to upgrade to. Even companies who are already on Windows Vista will want to drop it and move to something better.

When all is said and done, my take is that enterprise deployment of Windows 7 will happen no matter what. Grudgingly perhaps, as companies wait and see how it fares after the October 22 date for general availability. How is your enterprise planning to deploy Windows 7?
