Microsoft urges users to upgrade from IE 6

Statistics have shown that Internet Explorer 6 (IE) commanded a staggering 23.3 percent of the browser market in October. This, despite its age and a list of problems--especially security-related ones that never seem completely cleared. In an admission that the time has come for users to move on, Microsoft has now begun a campaign urging users to switch instead to Internet Explorer 8.

Ryan Servatius, senior product manager for Internet Explore told CNET, "What we're doing with the outreach is help users understand how to protect themselves against social engineering threats that exist and to help people understand how Internet Explorer 8 puts people in control of their own privacy online."

With Windows 7 launched, the days of IE 6 should be numbered as it is. Still, anything that speeds up the move is a good thing. You can watch the first video from this initiative here.
