Microsoft to sell low-cost PCs in India

Low-cost PCs in developing nations have become a bit of a trend as of late and let it not be said that Microsoft doesn't know how to hop on a bandwagon as it is just about to pass by. To that end, the company will launch its IQ PC as part of its Unlimited Potential program--the very same program under which the company will offer low cost software to developing nations.

The PCs will retail for around $500, will be built by Zenith and Wipro and will run on AMD processors.

The low-cost PCs will be tested in Bangalore and Pune during the coming weeks, with a nation-wide rollout currently scheduled for November. Additionally, Microsoft will train over 100,000 teachers in India in PC-based instruction. Considering that most of the other philanthroPC offerings retail at just south of the $200 mark, this seems more like a quickly cobbled together attempt at a "me too" than anything else.
