Microsoft releases Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit 2

Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) has released a new version of its Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit (EMET), a security bag of tools to help developers implement technologies such as dynamic data execution prevention and other methods to improve the security of their applications.

Over the years, Microsoft has actually incorporated a number of features designed to thwart common vectors for exploiting vulnerabilities in applications. The complexity, however, means that not every developer is able to implement them as part of their applications. Developers often face the issue of legacy applications and how to protect them without having to rewrite everything from scratch, as well. Fortunately, EMET was designed with these purposes in mind.

Forrester Research Analyst Mike Gualtieri told eWeek he was happy with the update to the toolkit, but did note: "Unfortunately, I think [it] mostly falls on deaf ears since most developers I speak with pay only lip service to the idea of more secure applications."
