Microsoft readying big Patch Tuesday next week
Administrators may want to cancel meetings scheduled for June 14 as word comes in from Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) about June's Patch Tuesday. Up to 16 bulletins have been announced this round, with nine "critical" security bulletins and seven others rated as "important." All critical fixes address potential remote code execution (RCE) attacks, with the majority of them spanning multiple operating systems or products.
For example, the first critical bulletin affects every supported version of the Windows OS, while the second critical one revolves around the Microsoft .NET Framework and Microsoft Silverlight--also affecting every OS. Critical bugs in Internet Explorer 6, 7 and 8 are also addressed, while IE 9 will get its first patch. All versions of Excel will get a patch on both the Windows and Mac OS X platforms. Along with vulnerabilities in SQL Server and other products, the overall tally comes to 34 flaws.
Separately, Adobe has announced that it will be releasing updates for its Adobe Reader, Adobe Reader X and Adobe Acrobat, for both Windows and Mac.
