Microsoft, IBM, others team on SML

A new draft of the service modeling language is being endorsed by an impressive list of major IT vendors, including BEA Systems, BMC Software, Cisco Systems, Dell, EMC, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Intel, Microsoft and Sun Microsystems. The language uses an XML approach to consistently describe hardware, software and services. The work began at Microsoft a few years ago and nobody's crying foul yet, so it has a decent chance at commercial success.
