Microsoft founds council to foster interoperability
Microsoft really seems intent on playing nice these days, huh? Hot on the heels of their landmark agreement with Novell for Linux interoperability, the company will announce the "Interop Vendor Alliance," a council of technology vendors that will address issues of interoperability. The committee, which will have about 25 members initially, aims to identify and address interoperability issues that exist despite the use of open standards. "In conversations (about interoperability), one thing that has come through from customers has been the need to have a constructive conversation with vendors about interoperability," said Jason Matusow, senior director for interoperability at Microsoft. In addition to vendors that Microsoft already has agreements with (Sun, Novell, SugarCRM), the council will include representatives from XenSource, Xcalia, Software AG, Siemens, Citrix, BEA Systems, CA and AMD.
