Microsoft Forefront will run AV engine of five vendors
Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) has rolled out Forefront Protection 2010 for SharePoint, which is designed to protect users from infected documents transferred to or from Microsoft SharePoint. The product is not only capable of hosting the Forefront anti-malware software however, it also uses the antivirus (AV) engines from four other security vendors. Other than Microsoft's own engine, the supported AV engines come from, Authentium, Kaspersky Lab, Norman and VirusBuster.
Confirming the new strategy of creating greater depth by using independent AV engines, JG Chirapurath, senior director of Microsoft's identity and security business group told DarkReading that, "We use a multi-engine approach. This is an acknowledgment that no one vendor can see all the threats and profiles out there."
The pricing for Forefront Protection 2010 for SharePoint is priced at around $7 per user, per year, with a minimum of five users.
