Microsoft escalates ODF fight with OpenXML
Bill Gates this week announced the OpenXML Formats Developer Group, an online forum devoted to pushing Microsoft file formats as de facto standards. The move is a response to Open Document Format, an effort widely supported by Microsoft's rivals. ODF supporters want to make files work the same regardless of whether they're created in Linux, Windows or other operating systems. Microsoft's announcement is also in response to the decreasing likelihood of OpenXML being accepted by true standards organizations.
