Microsoft Enterprise Desktop Virtualization goes into beta
In a bid to address one of the chief complaints about Windows Vista, Microsoft has released the first beta of a tool called the Microsoft Enterprise Desktop Virtualization (MED-V). The role of MED-V is to allow users to run legacy Windows applications not compatible with Windows Vista, though I will be very surprised if MED-V does not eventually get bundled together with Windows 7 when it is officially released either this year or next.
Indeed, many businesses have opted to skip Vista for various reasons, preferring to wait for the release of Windows 7, which is slated to replace Windows Vista. While application-compatibility is but one of several factors resulting in this decision, Microsoft obviously hopes to bump up adoption by eliminating as many barriers as possible. According to Microsoft, the final release of the software is expected later this year
