Microsoft captures 11 percent of search market with Bing
It appears that Microsoft's new Bing search engine has garnered almost 11 percent of the search market in August, going by a report by Nielsen. While Bing continues to be ranked third, the 1.1 billion searches on Bing for that month represents a 22.1 percent increase over that of July--when it was at just 9 percent.
Of course, Bing is still far from even approaching Google's staggering lead of 64.6 percent of the search engine market. While some of the increase could probably be attributed to the spillover effect of the massive publicity campaign by Microsoft when it launched Bing.
If you recall, we recently reported on Microsoft's new Visual Search feature, which allows users to search using images. Ultimately, the growing influence of Bing means that beyond just focusing on optimizing your website for Google or Yahoo, it makes sense to pay more attention to Bing too.
