Microsoft to businesses: Hold off on switching to IE9
Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) has advised that businesses should go ahead with their plans of upgrading to Windows 7 and not defer it until after Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) is released. In a post on the Windows for your Business blog, Rich Reynolds, Microsoft's general manager for Windows Commercial Product Marketing blogged that he was encouraged by the high levels of adoption and customer satisfaction in the Windows 7 operating system.
On IE9, Reynolds wrote, "Until the final code of Internet Explorer 9 is released to the Web (RTW), we recommend businesses first move to Windows 7 Enterprise with Internet Explorer 8." He explained that this will open the door for businesses to benefit from the deployment of IE8, and that any investments in IE8 "will be preserved when you are ready to deploy Internet Explorer 9."
As Microsoft's most standards-compliant browser to date, and with two million downloads of the IE9 in the first two days of its beta release, IE9 looks poised to be the best browser from Redmond yet. In fact, I wrote just last week about how it could well be the solution to tilt the browser game back in Microsoft's favor.
